Word Cloud — for facilitators

• Pipe in a text-rich tool (Brainstorm, Rich Brainstorm).
• Project it on the Display for the room.

Word Cloud consumes the text of whatever you pipe into it — the richer the source, the more the cloud has to say.

Paper and pen

You need: the idea wall from the previous activity, a flip chart, and a fat marker.

• Run a theme tally: read the notes aloud (or have the group call out), and tally-mark each recurring word or phrase on the flip chart as it comes round again.
• Fold synonyms into one line as you go — "slow", "delays" and "waiting" are one theme, not three. Splitting them is the failure mode: the real pattern hides in three small tallies instead of showing in one big one.
• Rewrite the top handful large on a fresh sheet, sized by their counts — a hand-drawn cloud the room can react to.
• Harvest: photograph both sheets — the tallies carry the detail, the cloud carries the headline.

When & why

Reach for Word Cloud straight after a generative burst, when you want the room to see its own language — it arranges words by frequency without judging any of them.

• Use it as a talking point: "these words keep coming up — what does that tell us?"
• It reflects language, not judgement; pair it with a scoring tool when you need to prioritise.
• Watch for the word that isn't there — the theme everyone expected but nobody wrote is worth naming out loud.
• What usually follows: Clustering to turn the surfaced themes into named groups, or Voting to start converging on the underlying ideas.
